3 Ways to STOP Interruptions

How many times has it happened to you that you just get started on something or just managed to get into high gear on a project, everything is working great and then there is an interruption, that throws you all off course? It happens to all of us at one time or another. The only problem is, that it seems to be happening every time that you have a project, that you really want to be excellent at.

We all have these problems when we are dealing with other people in the workplace, it really doesn't make a difference what line of work you are in. It seems to be more bothersome to those in an office setting but there are ways to get this under control.

How do you stop this insanity?

You have to take control of your time and accessibility to others by setting limits and sticking to it. Now how can you go about this without creating hard feelings? Just by following these simple steps:

  1. POST A SIGN
It doesn't have to be one that says, "stay out", it can be something phrased such as, "Working on a project-don't enter" or something funny such as "Vicious Boss-Do Not Enter" or "I'm Wasting My Time-Leave Me Alone" or if you have pre-warned everyone of your unavailability, "What Did I Tell You!".

  1. CHECK YOUR CALLER I.D.-Screen Your Calls
Just because the phone rings doesn't mean you have to answer it, you do have a message service! Screen those calls if you are waiting for an important call, otherwise you can return them later.

  1. NO VISITORS OR CALLERS
Remind family, friends and coworkers that you are working on some major projects and won't be available all day. This will let them know that they should not stop by, call or interrupt you for the entire day without you saying it in an impolite way.

Pick the one that works the best for you and stick with it, once people get used to your warnings, they will abide by your wishes.
