Organizing Tips to help you get ready

Google

We would all like to be organized and what better time, than to GET ORGANIZED NOW. Throughout this website you will find checklists and articles to help you to achieve just that. Your on your way to true Home and Office Organization.

These are some easy tips for you to follow to get yourself in the right frame of mind for organizing your life.

  1. Do small projects that take a short amount of time. You will see instant results and be proud of what you have accomplished and will look for bigger and better projects to do.
  2. Have plenty of plastic bags and boxes on hand before you start. The bags are for garbage and for the things you want to donate. The boxes are for storage and for things that you want to hoard for a garage sale.
  3. Have a magic marker, index cards or a label maker handy at all times. You may also want to have scotch tape that is 2 inches wide to reinforce the corners of boxes, attach the index cards etc.
  4. Set a kitchen timer (30 minute intervals is usually good to start with) so that you remember to take breaks while you are working. This way, you can rejuvenate your energy level and get a fresh perspective on the job you are doing.
  5. Make sure that you have a goal in mind. How would you like to see the job performed? What should the end result look like?
  6. Don't set a time limit on what you are doing. You will always feel like you are 'behind' if you get side-tracked and do something extra.
  7. Reward yourself! Think of something that you can give yourself as a 'special' reward for getting the job done. Remember, you are starting with small projects, so, you get small rewards. As you work your way up to the BIG jobs, your rewards get bigger and better. Write this reward down in large letters on a piece of paper and tape it where you can see it, to remind yourself of what is making this worth the time and energy (besides the fact that you will finally be organized), look at this often, it will give you the incentive you need to finish the job.
  8. Get rid of the clutter, garbage and donations right away. The least amount of things in the room that you are working in, the better off you will be. By the time the room is finished, you will have all of the mess put away and gone forever!

Organizing isn't only with your hands, it is with your mind as well. Sure, there is the planning aspect of it, but you also have to be in the 'organizing' frame of mind. This is the one that tells you, "Enough is enough, I am sick of the mess and clutter." Once you have achieved this, you are ready to take on any job, in any room and stick with it until the job is completed.
