How to: Organize a Bathroom in 8 Steps
If your bathroom is anything like most people that have kids, you know that organizing it and actually keeping it organized is two different things. However, there are certain basics of organizing that can help you to achieve your goal
1. Get rid of the clutter and debris. Through out everything that you don't use, is out-dated and that you haven't a use for.
2. Medicines should be kept in a place that is out of humidity. If your medicine cabinet is air tight, then it is a good place to keep it. If not, purchase a container that is air tight to store these in and get them out of the medicine cabinet or possibly out of the bathroom all together.
3. Check to see just how much storage area you really have in the bathroom. Then, start by emptying the cupboards into piles of 'like' items. Don't forget to keep the children's things separate from the adults (you will see why later).
4. Now, make sure that you give each member of the family a specific color that is theirs. This way each person has everything that is color-coded and they will be able to find their things easily without going through everyone else's things.
5. If you have small children, a net that hangs in the bathtub area will come in handy for the bathtub toys to dry in.
6. A shower caddy that hangs from the shower nozzle is always a good idea to hold shampoos. However, when my children were younger, I took a shoe bag; (the size that held nine pairs of shoes) punched holes in the bottom of each pocket and hung it in the shower. This held all of the shampoos, body wash, conditioners and bath salts. It was easy to clean because all I had to do is empty it and throw it in the washing machine.
7. If you do not have a laundry chute to get rid of dirty clothes, invest in a collapsible hamper that can go in a corner of the bathroom. The ideal solution is to have a hamper in everyone's closet, but this is not always practical, it depends on your lifestyle.
8. Now, purchase plastic containers, cute colored baskets or plastic colored baskets according to the colors that you have given everyone in the household. Put all of the toiletries for that person in their container. Starting with the youngest person or the shortest, place the containers on the shelves in the bathroom, making sure that they are within reach of everyone.
Extra tips: Kids will hang towels and washcloths up if you give them a hook to hang them on, if it is a towel bar, the items usually end up on the floor. You can use the back of the door, side of the bathroom cabinet or if possible and inside of a storage cabinet. This way when guests arrive, all you have to do is grab them and throw them in the hamper and the bathroom doesn't look cluttered.
