What to look for when purchasing new furniture
When we go to look for new furniture we look for the style, color and durability that a piece of furniture offers, but we don't look for the most important feature of a new piece of furniture..the storage space it can add to our home.
While looking for unused storage space in my home recently, I noticed that I had two three-shelf bookcases within the same area. It would have made more sense to own one six shelf bookcase, condense the items that I had on the shelves and the amount of space that it took to display those items. It also gave me two sets of shelves that I could now put in the kids play rooms (one for boys toys and one for the girls).
I usually look for the functionality of a piece of furniture, but I didn't think about looking at the amount of space that I could save by using one item instead of two. However, I have become a lot wiser in the last week. I then went through my home and moved furniture from room to room finding that it helped me to keep things organized, added storage to the rooms that lacked it and gave my home a 'new' look.
More items (such as the bookcases) is not always better. look for function in a piece of furniture, the amount of space it will use and the amount of added storage. Also, by thinking vertical instead of horizontal and you will save additional space.
