Organizing Papers for Your Family

Make sure that you make family members aware of where these items are. They are important documents that may be needed at different times in your life.

 

ITEMS TO HAVE IN A FIREPROOF SAFE

 

LEGAL RECORDS

Ÿ         Copies of Drivers License

Ÿ         Copies of credit card numbers, companies etc.

Ÿ         Health, Auto, Home Insurance policies

Ÿ         Insurance that is included with credit cards; name of card, company of policy etc

Ÿ         Last will and testament

Ÿ         Living wills (with copies to lawyers and doctors)

Ÿ         Powers of attorneys (durable and medical)

Ÿ         Make sure executor has copies of all papers or has access to papers

 

 

PERSONAL RECORDS

Ÿ         Social Security Cards

Ÿ         Death certificates

Ÿ         Marriage certificates

Ÿ         Divorce papers

Ÿ         Passports

Ÿ         Birth and adoption certificates

Ÿ         Military records

Ÿ         Bank Loans, accounts (at least have the number and the Bank or Credit Union)

 

PERSONAL PROPERTY RECORDS

Ÿ         House inventory, include pictures, serial and model numbers etc.

Ÿ         Vehicle titles, include boat, motorcycle etc.

Ÿ         Deeds for home, vacations home, rental Properties etc.

Ÿ         Cemetery Deeds.

Ÿ         Grave Marker papers, company it is with etc.

 

INVESTMENTS

Ÿ         Cds

Ÿ         Stocks and Bonds

Ÿ         Mutual Funds

Ÿ         Retirement Plan/Pension

Ÿ         IRA

Ÿ         Annuities

Ÿ         Rental Properties

 

This will give you a broadened view of how an Organized File Cabinet and Safe should look. I can also catalog all of these items  into one book if wanted by the client, depending on what is needed.

List with Name, Address, City, State, Telephone Number and what it is that they take care of for you.

Ÿ         Investment Counselor/Financial Advisor

Ÿ         Doctor

Ÿ         Minister or Priest

Ÿ         Members of your family or friends to contact in an Emergency

 

 

THINGS YOU SHOULD MAKE SURE YOU HAVE READY

Ÿ         Financial Power of Attorney

Ÿ         Medical Power of Attorney

Ÿ         Signed Donor Card

 

 

These are only some of the areas that most people seem to neglect getting ready and having accessible to others. But, in an Emergency situation or upon death, these things become VERY IMPORTANT.

 

AN ORGANIZED FILE SYSTEM

 

Ÿ         Have an alphabetized file cabinet

Ÿ         Put all User I.D’s and passwords  on the outside of the file folder

Ÿ         Put names of contacts on the outside of file folder

 

    MAKE SURE THAT YOUR FILE IS SET UP SO YOU UNDERSTAND WHERE EVERYTHING IS
